Paul Krugman is the Oracle
Trump has attacked a brilliant economist for telling the truth
My Fellow Democracy Defenders,
Paul Krugman is fighting fascism with facts and economics. Trump has attacked him for telling the truth about the economic destruction caused by his illegal tariffs and wars. Like Joe Biden, Heather Cox Richardson, Jim Acosta, Terry Moran, Zohran Mamdani, Cory Booker, Kilmar Abrego Garcia, Mark Carney, and others, he has inspired me to pen a poem.
Ballad of the Truth-Teller
In the arena of thought where giants collide,
A pen wields power where the sword might glide.
Paul Krugman stands, with numbers as his shield,
Defending democracy, his mind ever healed.
Against the storm of tariffs, steel and aluminum,
He dissects the lies, exposing every flaw.
"Numbers don’t lie," he declares, clear and true,
While chaos brews in the house that greed built.
Trump’s alt-facts swirl like poison in the air,
But Krugman’s clarity cuts through the despair.
With graphs and history, he fortifies the wall—
Truth’s steady drumbeat, answering each call.
Democracy’s not a game for the bold to twist,
But a fragile garden tendrils must resist.
Krugman tends it, root by root, with patient care,
Reminding us all that light still fixes what’s broken there.
So raise the banner of fact, let knowledge sway—
For in the battle for minds, truth must have its day.

Love, Public Servant, your couplet,
"Democracy’s not a game for the bold to twist,
But a fragile garden tendrils must resist."
Love it for the biological metaphors. Pasternak's earliest poetry relied lovingly on biology. Many others of my favorite poets, from many languages, also traveled there.
Professor Krugman has blossomed into a potent voice, speaking truth to power. This has been especially true after leaving the constraints placed on him by the "billionaire-biased" New York Times. I encourage everyone to READ what Paul Krugman has to say, EVERY day.
And I thank YOU, for your thoughtful poem!
