A Poem for Kilmar Abrego Garcia
Bring Kilmar home and protect all migrants in America - "A Father's Plea, A Bridge of Hope"
My Fellow Democracy Defenders,
We must stand with Kilmar Abrego Garcia. I wrote a poem calling to return this Maryland father of three to America. Let us continue to fight for freedom against fascism. My partner and I will continue to shelter migrants at our home. All of your upgrades help keep us afloat after she was fired from her DEI civil service career.
A Father's Plea, A Bridge of Hope
A stranger in a foreign land,
Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a life unplanned,
Once in America, with dreams to stand,
Now apart, with a distant land.
His heart remains, where love did grow,
A home, a family, a life to know,
The memories linger, the pain does stay,
As he longs to return, day by day.
A life of promise, of hope and strife,
Was built in America, a beacon of life,
But now, in exile, he's forced to roam,
A soul tormented, without a home.
The reasons for his abduction unclear,
A complex web, of laws and fear,
But one thing's certain, his heart's desire,
To return to America, his love on fire.
The land of freedom, of justice and right,
Must open its arms, and shine with new light,
For Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a son of the earth,
Deserves to come home, and have a rebirth.
His story's not unique, but a cry for help,
A voice that echoes, a soul that yelps,
For the chance to return, to rebuild and thrive,
In the land he loves, where his heart survives.
So let us raise our voices, and make a stand,
For Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a stranger in a foreign land,
Let us demand, with compassion and might,
That he be allowed to return, and shine with new light.
For America's greatness, is not just a claim,
But a promise to all, who seek to reclaim,
Their dreams, their hopes, their hearts and their homes,
In the land of the free, where love forever roams.
As much as we want Kilmar Abrego Garcia freed, don't forget there are 260+ others jailed in El Salvador without due process. The abduction of people kidnapped off the street and imprisoned in a foreign land means the end of rights guaranteed since 1215 (i.e., the Magna Carta) and the 4th, 8th and 14th Amendments in our Constitution. The writ of habeas corpus, which allows individuals to challenge the legality of their detention, has a long history tied to the Magna Carta.
The 4th Amendment protects against unreasonable searches and seizures, while the 14th Due Process Clause ensures a person of life, liberty, or property without due process of law.
As if those violations of the Constitution were not enough, the cruel and unusual punishment clause of the 8th Amendment prohibits such action inflicted by the government This amendment aims to protect individuals like Kilmar Garcia--and all other residents of the US, to be protected by the Constitution, from punishment that is excessively harsh or inhumane.
Trump has destroyed the Constitution and the Magna Carta in 84 days, with the help of cowed, cowardlyRepublicans in Congress and the SCOTUS. Shades of Nazi Germany 1930s!
Such lovely words. ❤️❤️❤️
