A Poem for Kamala
Imagining a world of joy with President Harris
My Fellow Democracy Defenders,
Kamala Harris should have made history as our first Black female president. I was heartbroken on election night and saddened that she has decided not to run for Governor of California. The trauma of 2016 and 2024 remain, but I hope she kicks the fascists out of the Oval Office in a 2028 landslide to lead is into a diverse, progressive future! What can be, unburdened by what has been.
Like Joe Biden, Heather Cox Richardson, Jim Acosta, Terry Moran, Zohran Mamdani, Cory Booker, Kilmar Abrego Garcia, Mark Carney, and others, she has inspired me to pen a poem.
In dawn’s soft glow, from sea to shining sea,
A chorus rises, every voice set free.
From bustling boroughs to prairie wide and grand,
We hold one dream united, hand in hand.
Madam President stands at the helm, calm and wise,
Her laughter kindles hope in children’s eyes.
With empathy she bridges every divide,
Inviting all to walk, to strive, to thrive.
Across the table, elders, youth, and kin,
Share stories etched in history’s vibrant skin.
Black, Brown, Asian, Indigenous, and white,
All bloom together in America’s light.
Justice rings like church bells in the air,
Equity’s sweet promise woven everywhere.
From city streets to rural fields of gold,
No one’s left longing, no one’s left untold.
In city streets and countryside,
LGBTQIA+ flags fly high.
She, he, and they stand side by side,
No longer bound by fear, full of pride.
The courts now echo justice true,
Rewriting rules long overdue.
Healthcare framed as human right,
Reversing climate change as shared delight.
Immigrant dreams no longer stall,
At borders carved by ancient wall.
Instead they bloom in classrooms bright,
New names, new tongues, new light.
Under her watch, the earth and people heal,
Clean rivers flowing, every heart can feel
The power of belonging, strong and free,
A tapestry of hope for you and me.

Kamala would have been an awesome president and she would have been able to continue with her many goals she had as an essential part of the last administration. They had done so much to repair our relationships with our allies and progress this country forward. She was even working on chasing the greedy hedge funds out of the residential housing market and actually doing something to bring down the costs. When I think of what we could have had and what we got stuck with I weep for this nation.
Trump never should have been allowed to run. He tried to overthrow the government, yet for some reason he was allowed to vote. Is it that the Democrats fear the Republicans so much? This is the fault of the Democrats. They sat back and left that traitor, con man, Italian American rapist/racist run for president again. He should've been arrested immediately after January 6. But no, we have to do every single thing by the book. Why? The Republicans are using using street fighting tactics and we're fighting by the rules of Queensberry is it? You can't have a revolution with manners.
