My Fellow Democracy Defenders,
is fighting fascism with hard-hitting truth. ABC fired him after many years of world class journalism. All he did was criticize Steven Miller. We must protect free speech. I have written a poem to welcome him to Substack. If you are new, check out my other poems for Joe Biden, Heather Cox Richardson, Jim Acosta, Cory Booker, Kilmar Abrego Garcia, Mark Carney, and more.
"The Sentinel of Light"
In the press room’s glow, where truths take flight,
Terry Moran stands, a sentinel of night,
Microphone in hand, a torch against the tide—
His questions cut the fog where power hides.
No siren’s call, but truth’s unyielding cry,
He chases shadows where the powerful lie,
Unraveling threads of lies, frayed and thin,
While democracy’s pulse beats beat within.
He’s seen the chaos, heard the rhetoric’s roar,
The clash of ideals, the fractured shore,
Yet asks again: “What proof? What cost to trust?”
A guardian of the words that hold us just.
When doubt ascends and futures seem unbound,
He anchors stories in the soil of sound—
Facts, not frenzy; facts, not firebrand’s flame,
The bedrock where free minds and free votes claim.
Oh, they’ll shout “Bias!” when truths discomfort near,
But he bends not to the winds that seek to fear.
For democracy’s shield is not a sword—
It’s the relentless hunt for what’s restored.
So in the script of struggle, scripted well,
His name becomes a verse no era can quell:
A journalist’s vow, a citizen’s fight,
To keep the light alive through endless night.
For when the gavel falls and borders blur,
It’s voices like his that rebuild the furled—
Not with grand gestures, but granular grace,
The quiet courage to name the face.
And though the battle’s long, the stakes ever-high,
Terry Moran writes in ink that won’t dry:
Democracy’s defender? Not a role—
It’s the breath between each uncensored goal.
Perfect tribute to an honorable man.
One of the few that has the courage to speak up for the injustices in this current administration!
