Keith Ellison Leads Minnesota's Anti-Fascism Resistanace
A poem for a strong attorney general guarding rule of law
My Fellow Democracy Defenders,
MN AG Keith Ellison is fighting Trump’s fascism and protecting Minnesota’s vibrant immigrant communities. He is also a proud supporter of Antifa. Like fellow brave Minnesotans Tim Walz, Jacob Frey, Renee Good, Alex Pretti, Ilhan Omar, and the Somali community, he has inspired me to write a poem.
In the land where ten thousand lakes reflect the sky so wide,
Stands a guardian who fights so that no vote shall be denied.
Keith Ellison, steadfast, with the law as his shield,
For the people’s voice to ring loud, undenied, unrepealed.
He does not hide in shadows, wields no torch in the night—
His weapons are the statutes, and the sovereign right
Of every citizen’s ballot, cast free from fear,
From gerrymanders’ cunning or suppression’s sneer.
They say “Antifa” like it’s a banner to wave,
But he knows true defense of democracy must be brave
Not with bricks, but with ballots; not with chaos, but with law—
For the strong fist of justice is the hand that defends the awe
Of a government by the people, for the weak and the small,
Where the powerful are checked when they trample the rights of all.
He fought for marriage equality, for workers’ fair share,
For immigrants’ dignity, for health care that’s there.
He sued to protect voters when their rights were under siege,
And stood firm when demagogues tried to twist truth into lies.
No, he’ll not claim a label that some twist into hate,
For democracy’s guardian knows the stakes are too great.
To let violence answer words, or silence drown the plea—
The real anti-fascism is ensuring you and I are free
To speak, to vote, to gather, without threat of the boot,
Where the rule of law stands taller than any iron salute.
He remembers the lessons of history’s dark age:
When fascism rose silent, ignored by the sage.
So he works in the daylight—courtrooms, halls of state—
To keep the doors of democracy wide, not sealed by hate.
Let the record be clear, as the Minnesota pines stand tall:
His pride is in the Constitution, not in chaos or brawl.
He defends the dream that Lincoln and Douglass did pursue:
A government of the people—where the truth shall see us through.
So here’s to the Attorney General, with his pen and his resolve,
Who knows that democracy lives when its promises evolve.
Not through shadows or fury, but through justice, fair and bright—
Keith Ellison fights for democracy, and he fights it right.

Beautiful - well written
