Ilhan Omar Survived an Heinous Attack
A Poem for Rep Omar as she fends of assassination attempts while fighting fascism and Islamophobia
My Fellow Democracy Defenders,
A few days ago, Rep. Ilhan Omar bravely stood her ground when an assailant attacked her with a syringe. For many years, she has fought MAGA white supremacy. She represents the best of America and the Somali community. I wrote a poem as a tribute to her bravery. Minnesota is lucky to have her and she is the future of the Democratic party!
From Mogadishu’s dust to Minnesota snow,
A voice rises where prairie winds blow—
Speaking for those whose stories go untold,
For refugees who’ve traveled roads so cold.
In marble halls where democracy breathes,
She stands against the tide that seethes,
While headlines scream and hatred grows,
She plants her feet and faces those
Who’d rather silence than debate,
Who traffic fear and peddle hate.
For every threat that darkness sends,
Her voice grows stronger, never bends.
She carries stories in her bones—
Of families fled from broken homes,
Of children learning to be brave
In lands across the ocean’s wave.
When danger knocks at freedom’s door,
She stands to speak for those before
Who faced the storm and held the line—
Democracy’s enduring sign.
For every voice they try to still,
Ten more rise upon the hill,
For justice is a river wide
That will not be turned aside.
In Congress halls and community spaces,
She represents forgotten faces,
A bridge between two worlds that meet
Where Mississippi waters greet.
Unbowed, unbroken, standing tall—
A testament that through it all,
Democracy is not just talk,
But those brave enough to walk.

What a beautiful tribute to her. Thank you
Thank you, Public Servant. A wonderful poem for a brave and steadfast woman. I have such admiration for Congresswoman Omar. As she has said, she survived war in her home country of Somalia and she will survive this, but it still pisses me off that she has to endure Dump’s and Maga’s egregious daily lies and hateful threats. One day, Dump will be held accountable.
