A Poem About Defending Democracy in Ukraine

"Freedom's Light" is my tribute to Ukraine and Zelensky's fight for democracy

Thank you for your kind comments on last week’s poem. “Guardians of the Flame” was a tribute to all public servants. I will start a weekly tradition where the Saturday post will be a poem.

Today’s poem is called “Freedom’s Light” in honor of Ukraine and President Zelensky. They are bravely battling the fascism of Putin and Trump. Slava Ukraini!

In fields where freedom's banners wave,
A nation's heart, defiant, brave,
Stands tall against the stormy night,
With courage fierce, in freedom's light.

Ukraine, the land where dreams aspire,
Whose spirit burns with freedom's fire,
Defends its soil, its skies, its sea,
A testament to liberty.

In cities scarred by war's cruel hand,
The people rise, a steadfast band,
With voices strong and spirits high,
For democracy, they cannot deny.

Zelensky leads with ardent might,
A beacon in the darkest night,
His words, a rallying, hopeful song,
For justice, right, against the wrong.

Through trials harsh and battles fierce,
Through sorrow's veil, through wounds that pierce,
Their cause remains, their hearts align,
For democracy, a sacred sign.

The world observes, with bated breath,
Their testament to life and death,
That freedom's call, though high the cost,
Is never truly ever lost.

So let us honor, let us cheer,
This fight for all that we hold dear,
For Ukraine’s stand, for freedom’s plea,
For democracy, for you and me.
