Women Will Save Our Democracy
Democrats need to let women lead us into a progressive future - all the top female leaders and reasons why women are stronger advocates for democracy
My Fellow Democracy Defenders,
Women are protecting our sacred democracy.
The strongest Democrats standing up against fascism are women. Senators Elizabeth Warren, Mazie Hirono, Tammy Duckworth, Maggie Hassan, Kristen Gillibrand, and Amy Klobuchar were the most vocal during the confirmation hearings. Representatives Jasmine Crockett, Ilhan Omar, Pramila Jayapal, Sarah McBride, Ayanna Pressley, Maxine Waters, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez are building grassroots movements in the house. Governors Gretchen Whitmer, Maura Healey, Kathy Hochul, Katie Hobbs, and Tina Kotek are protecting their states from the orange menace. Maura Healey, Katanji Brown Jackson, Sonia Sotomayor, and Elana Kagan are the liberal bulwark in the Supreme Court. Many of the best Substack writers like

My partner is suing the muskrat and his minions for their racist and sexist firings of dedicated DEI civil servants - your support would be immensely appreciated:
Loved this sign at a recent protest:
Democracy Defender’s readership is 80% female and 99% of you are correct in jailing the orange felon and muskrat:
Here are all the reasons why women are stronger defenders of democracy:
1. Socialization and Emphasis on Collaboration
Due to socialization processes, women are often encouraged to develop qualities such as empathy, cooperation, and a preference for consensus. These traits are well suited to the deliberative, inclusive decision-making processes that are central to democratic governance.
2. Experiences with Marginalization
Historically, women in many societies have had to fight for equal rights and representation. This struggle can foster a deep-seated appreciation for democratic mechanisms as a means to secure justice, inclusion, and protection of civil liberties. Because democratic systems are built on principles of equality and protection against abuse of power, women’s experiences with marginalization make them more vigilant in defending these norms.
3. Policy Priorities and Social Welfare
Women tend to support policies that enhance social welfare and community well-being. Since strong democracies rely on governments that are responsive to the needs of all citizens and that work toward broad-based social inclusion, these policy preferences reinforce democratic practices.
4. Leadership Styles
In contexts where women have entered formal politics, they adopt leadership styles that emphasize transparency, consultation, and coalition-building over confrontation. Such approaches can strengthen democratic institutions by promoting trust and reducing polarization.
5. Anti-fascism
Women are tolerant of certain authoritarian practices and more supportive of rules that ensure fairness and accountability. Factors such as education, socioeconomic status, and cultural background also play significant roles in shaping political attitudes. We have the most at stake if Christofascists take over and turn us into handmaids:
We need to fight against the SAVE Act now - it would strip women of their ability to vote if their married name and name on their birth certificates don't match. Another very dangerous voter suppression tactic.
When I started my Substack, I never dreamed I'd see my name in a list of so many women I admire. Thank you for everything you're doing to fight what's happening.
