A Poem for Graham Platner

We must rally behind Maine's DSA candidate to take the Senate

My Fellow Democracy Defenders,

Graham Platner for U.S. Senate will be Maine’s next Senator. He fights against fascists to protect democracy, human rights, and the working class. When they go low, we go high. Let’s rally behind this veteran oyster farmer to take down the MAGAt bootlicker Susan Collins. I wrote a poem for him, inspired by his bravery like the song I wrote for fellow Mainer Heather Cox Richardson.

Where the rocky coast meets the cold gray tide,
And the spirit of Maine remains open and wide,
A voice rises up, steady, strong, and clear,
To calm the storm and silence the fear.
Graham Platner stands with his eyes on the prize,
With a resolve that no shadow can ever disguise.

A sentinel watching where democracy dwells,
Defending the truth as the dark rhetoric swells.
He faces the tide where the fascists would go,
Drawing a line that the tyrants will know;
For he champions the ballot, the vote, and the free,
The bedrock of all that we’re striving to be.

For the working class, with their hands rough and worn,
He carries the shield on the day they are born
To the hope of a wage and a life built on pride,
With justice and fairness kept close by his side.
He fights for the mills, for the homes, and the street,
Ensuring no worker will suffer defeat.

And to those who arrive with a dream in their chest,
Seeking a home in the sun and the west,
He opens the door with a heart and a hand,
To welcome the neighbor to Maine’s sturdy land.
For he knows that our strength is in cultures combined,
And leaves not a person or stranger behind.

So here to the Senate, for the future he’ll guide,
With the needs of the many, the heart of the tide.
A fighter, a leader, a voice for the grand,
Graham Platner, the choice for the good of the land.
